Tragedy Strikes Jalandhar Dhaba Owner’s Family as 3-Year-Old Crushed by Speeding SUV

A celebratory day turned into a heartbreaking tragedy for the family of Barinder Lucky, the owner of the renowned Lucky Dhaba in Jalandhar, when his three-year-old son, Tripur, was fatally hit by a speeding SUV on Monday.

The family was preparing to take Tripur to a temple for his mundan (hair shaving ceremony), a significant ritual in Hindu tradition, when the incident occurred just outside their home near Kishanpura Chowk.

According to eyewitnesses, the same SUV had moments earlier run over a dog in the area. Before locals could react, the vehicle struck little Tripur. The driver did not stop and sped away, leaving behind shocked and grieving family members and neighbours.

Somnath, a relative who was present at the scene, recounted the horrifying moment: “The child was standing right next to me when the SUV approached at high speed. I signaled for it to stop and even tried to hit the vehicle, but the driver didn’t slow down and crushed the child. I chased the car towards Domoriah Bridge and followed it till Ravidass School, but couldn’t catch it.”

Tripur was the only child of Barinder Lucky and was deeply cherished by the entire family. "We were all set to go to the temple for his mundan. First, the vehicle crushed a dog and then, amid the commotion, took the life of our beloved boy," said his uncle, Pawan Kumar. "He was the apple of our eye. His loss is beyond words. Justice must be served."

CCTV footage from the area shows a white XUV fleeing the scene on an otherwise empty road. Police are analyzing the footage to identify the vehicle and track down the driver.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Balkaran Singh from Rama Mandi police station confirmed that the child’s body was sent to the Civil Hospital in Jalandhar for a post-mortem. “We are reviewing CCTV footage to trace the vehicle and its driver. Efforts are underway to bring the culprit to justice,” he said.

The incident has left the community in shock, as what was meant to be a joyous family occasion ended in an unimaginable loss.
