Three Illegal Houses of Alleged Drug Peddlers Demolished in Muktsar District
As part of its ongoing anti-drug campaign “Yudh Nashian Virudh”, a joint team of the district administration and police on Tuesday demolished three illegally constructed houses belonging to alleged drug peddlers in Jhorar village, located approximately 13 km from Malout town in Punjab’s Muktsar district.
All three accused—Rani, Charanjit Kaur, and Satto—are women with multiple FIRs registered against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. According to the police, Rani is involved in eight cases, Charanjit Kaur in six, and Satto in five.
Senior officials, including Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Akhil Chaudhary and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Surinder Singh Dhillon, were present during the demolition. A heavy police presence ensured smooth execution of the operation.
“These structures were built using proceeds from drug trafficking,” SSP Chaudhary said, adding that the Block Development and Panchayats Officer (BDPO) had officially requested police support for the demolition. He described the accused as "hardened drug traffickers."
Jhorar village has gained notoriety in recent years as a hub for narcotics, with residents stating that over 50 cases under the NDPS Act have been registered in the village over the past five years.
This marks the third demolition of properties linked to drug peddlers in the district. Earlier, a house in Madrassa village was razed on March 12, followed by the demolition of two buildings near Gidderbaha town on May 8.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on the drug menace by targeting assets acquired through illicit means.
