Special ‘Ardas’ Offered at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib for Peace Amid Border Tensions

In light of escalating tensions along the India-Pakistan border following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, a special ‘ardas’ (prayer) for ‘sarbat da bhalla’—the well-being of all—was held on Friday at the revered Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib in Sri Anandpur Sahib, the holy city of the tenth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh.

The prayer was led by Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, the officiating Jathedar of Akal Takht and Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib. The ardas was performed before the Guru Granth Sahib, seeking divine intervention for peace and harmony in South Asia, and protection for all living beings across the world.

“The prayer appealed for mutual love, unity, and the restoration of peace in the region,” said Jathedar Gargaj. He emphasized the need for both Indian and Pakistani governments to take sincere and peaceful steps to resolve the current conflict. “War has always inflicted deep wounds on humanity, often claiming the lives of innocents. Every effort must be made to prevent escalation and ensure dialogue prevails,” he stated.

Reflecting on history, he noted that since 1947, repeated hostilities between the two nations have led to tremendous losses, especially affecting the Hindu and Sikh communities in Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir.

Prior to the ardas, Gurbani (sacred hymns) were recited at the Takht. The prayer gathering saw participation from several prominent figures, including SGPC Executive Committee Member Dr. Daljit Singh Bhinder, Head Granthi Giani Joginder Singh, the Panj Piaras, and officials such as Manager Malkit Singh and Additional Manager Hardev Singh, along with the staff and a large number of devotees (Sangat).

The solemn gathering served as a reminder of the Sikh ethos of universal brotherhood and the enduring hope for peace amid rising uncertainty.
