Schools Closed in Punjab Border Areas Following Indian Army Strikes in PoK
Punjab – Schools in several border areas of Punjab, including Amritsar, Fazilka, and Ferozepur, have been temporarily closed as a precautionary measure to ensure student safety. The decision comes after the Indian Army launched missile strikes early Wednesday morning on terror camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The targeted strikes, part of a military operation named Operation Sindoor, focused on facilities linked to terror outfits such as Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Taiba. These actions come two weeks after a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians.
District Commissioners in the affected regions have issued orders to close schools until further notice. Although some schools initially informed parents that the closure would be for a single day, officials have clarified that reopening will depend on how the security situation evolves.
Similar closures have been enforced in Jammu and Kashmir, where schools and colleges in districts like Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, and Poonch remain shut. The region also witnessed cross-border firing and shelling by Pakistan's military last night, resulting in the deaths of three civilians.
Parents have been advised to maintain regular contact with schools for updates on when classes are expected to resume.
