Punjab Government to Launch Massive Anti-Drug Awareness Drive

The Punjab government is set to intensify its fight against drug abuse with the launch of a major public awareness campaign on Friday. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, along with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal, will flag off the initiative by leading a ‘Nasha Mukti Yatra’ from Nawanshahr.

This campaign forms a key part of the ruling party’s Maha Jan Sampark Abhiyan, aimed at eradicating drug addiction and curbing the illegal drug trade across the state. A central component of the plan involves organizing gram sabhas in 351 villages daily. These community meetings will focus on encouraging residents to reject drug use and actively assist authorities by reporting illegal activities.

To ensure widespread coverage, the campaign will target three villages or municipal wards each day in all 117 Vidhan Sabha constituencies. The goal is to reach and engage with 15,000 villages and urban wards across Punjab.

In addition to raising awareness, the state government is also taking stringent action against drug traffickers. Law enforcement has intensified efforts through criminal proceedings and by seizing or demolishing properties linked to drug smuggling. Notably, approximately 75 drug peddlers have been injured during police encounters as part of the broader crackdown.

The initiative signals a renewed commitment by the Punjab government to confront the drug menace through a combination of community mobilization and tough enforcement.
