Major Weapons Smuggling Network Busted in Punjab; Two Arrested in Tarn Taran

In a significant breakthrough, Punjab Police have uncovered a major weapons smuggling operation with the arrest of two individuals allegedly linked to Pakistan-based smugglers. The arrests were made during an intelligence-led operation carried out near Sarai Amanat Khan in the Tarn Taran district.

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav shared the development on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday. He stated, “In an intelligence-led operation, @TarnTaranPolice foiled a major weapons smuggling module by arresting two persons — Sukhdev Singh alias Dev and Swarn Kumar alias Ghoda — near Sarai Amanat Khan, #TarnTaran.”

According to DGP Yadav, Sukhdev Singh, also known as Dev, opened fire on the police during the operation and sustained a gunshot wound in retaliatory fire. He has been admitted to Civil Hospital, Tarn Taran, for treatment.

Police recovered a Glock 9 mm pistol, a PX5 .30 calibre pistol, seven live cartridges, and three empty shells from the accused during the operation.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the duo was in direct contact with smugglers based in Pakistan and were actively supplying arms in Tarn Taran and neighbouring districts. Authorities have launched a deeper probe to dismantle the broader network involved in the cross-border arms smuggling.

Further updates are expected as the investigation continues.
