Kartarpur Corridor Closed Until Further Notice Amid Security Concerns

Amritsar – The Ministry of Home Affairs’ Bureau of Immigration has temporarily shut down the Kartarpur Corridor, halting cross-border pilgrimage to Pakistan’s Darbar Sahib Gurdwara “till further orders.” The move came unannounced on Wednesday morning, leaving around 150 pilgrims—who had assembled at the integrated check-post—stranded and ultimately asked to return home after a 90-minute wait.

Pilgrims expressed disappointment and confusion, as many had suspected since early morning that the corridor might be closed due to rising border tensions. “We were made to wait for nearly an hour and a half before an immigration official informed us that we would not be allowed to proceed,” said Tarsem Singh, one of the affected pilgrims.

Another pilgrim, Satnam Kaur, confirmed that officials told them they would need to reapply online once the corridor reopens.

Although no official statement was issued linking the closure to a specific threat, speculation had been mounting since the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 tourists were killed. The current security climate following Operation Sindoor and increased tension along the India-Pakistan border appears to have prompted the precautionary move.

Authorities have yet to announce a reopening date. Pilgrims and religious organizations have been advised to monitor official channels for updates.
