Debt-Driven Tarn Taran Man Held with Heroin in Sriganganagar

Gurjant Singh (35), a resident of Dhotian village in Tarn Taran district, has been arrested in Sriganganagar for allegedly smuggling heroin. During interrogation, Gurjant reportedly told police that financial distress pushed him into the drug trade.

According to police sources, Gurjant had been running a small fast food business near his village, selling burgers and other snacks. However, he struggled to make ends meet and eventually fell into debt. In search of quick money, he came into contact with a drug trafficker and began transporting heroin from Amritsar to Sriganganagar, near Abohar.

He was apprehended on Tuesday while carrying 200 grams of heroin. Authorities also seized the vehicle he was using for transportation.

Investigations revealed that since December, Gurjant had been sourcing heroin through Daljit Singh, who allegedly supplied him with the latest consignment—200 grams—on Monday evening in Amritsar. Gurjant was reportedly instructed to deliver the drugs to a man named Satpal in Sriganganagar and make a payment of ₹3.20 lakh.

Police are continuing their probe to uncover the wider network involved in the trafficking operation.
