CM Bhagwant Mann Marks Ambedkar Jayanti at Punjabi University, Highlights Education, Anti-Drug Drive, and Political Awareness

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday attended a special program at Punjabi University, Patiala, to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar. The event served as a platform for Mann to spotlight the government's efforts in education reform, anti-drug initiatives, and youth engagement in politics.

Addressing the gathering, Mann emphasized the state's commitment to reviving Punjabi University, revealing that the government is currently allocating ₹30 crore every month to stabilize the institution. He also announced the launch of a new "Maker’s Space" lab at the university, aimed at enhancing research and innovation on campus.

Mann lauded the university's active participation in the state’s anti-drug campaign and reiterated his government's aggressive stance against drug peddlers. “Their properties are soaked in the blood of innocent people, and we will not spare them,” he declared, referring to the ongoing “bulldozer action” against the drug mafia. He also acknowledged the vital support from village sarpanches, especially in the Malwa region, in this ongoing crackdown.

Urging students to become more politically conscious, Mann encouraged the youth to engage in politics—not just to contest elections but to understand the broader impact of governance and policy decisions. He warned against divisive forces, condemning attempts to stir social unrest. “The defacement of Dr. Ambedkar’s statue is deeply regrettable. We will not tolerate such acts,” he asserted.

Taking a pointed jab at Leader of Opposition and senior Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa, Mann dismissed Bajwa’s recent claim that 50 grenades had entered Punjab, with 18 already used. “When asked to reveal the whereabouts of the remaining bombs, he hires a lawyer. This is nothing but politics of fear,” Mann said.

Concluding his speech, the Chief Minister called for unity and peace, stating, “Punjab has seen enough of bloodshed, bombs, and AK-47s. It’s time for our state to walk the path of prosperity.”
