Border Villagers Flee Amid Explosions and Drone Sightings Despite Ceasefire

Fazilka, May 12: Panic gripped several villages along the India-Pakistan border late last night after residents reported hearing loud explosions and spotting suspected drones coming from across the border. Though a ceasefire agreement has been announced, fear and uncertainty continue to linger in the border belt.

In Jhangar Bhaini village, sarpanch Harmesh Warwal said the explosions sparked fear among residents, prompting many to leave their homes in search of safer ground. "People were frightened. The sounds were loud and unexpected," he said.

Hansa Singh, former sarpanch of Mohar Jamsher village — surrounded by Pakistan on three sides — described the scene as chaotic. "We saw objects flying from the Pakistani side, likely drones. Women, children, and the elderly quickly gathered their belongings, mainly essentials and clothes packed in trunks, and moved to safer places," he said.

The affected villages include Mohar Jamsher, Mohar Khiva, Mohar Sona, Mansa, Jhangar Bhaini, Mahatam Nagar, Retewali Bhaini, Gulaba Bhaini, Dona Nanka Dhani Sadda Singh, Pakka Chisti, and Bakhu Shah — all located along the International Boundary with Pakistan.

Following the ceasefire announcement, the district administration lifted the earlier blackout order but urged residents to remain alert and vigilant.

Despite official reassurances, the lingering fear of renewed hostilities continues to disrupt life for those living along the border.
