Bar Council Declares No-Work Day in Courts Across Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh Amid Security Concerns
In light of rising tensions between India and Pakistan, the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana has announced a no-work day across all courts in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh on May 9, citing safety concerns.
Rakesh Gupta, Chairman of the Bar Council, stated that the decision was made keeping in mind the security and well-being of litigants, advocates, court staff, and the general public amid the current volatile situation.
Echoing the move, Ashok Chauhan, President of the District Bar Association, Chandigarh, confirmed that the association would observe a no-work day in the Chandigarh district courts on Friday. “The decision has been taken in view of the prevailing situation and in solidarity with the safety concerns raised,” he said.
The announcement comes as part of a broader set of precautionary measures being taken across the region as tensions continue to escalate along the India-Pakistan border.
