Security Tightened at Punjab-J&K Border Following Pahalgam Terror Attack
In response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, security measures have been significantly intensified along the Punjab-J&K border, with a particular focus on the Madhopur checkpoint. The Punjab Police, in close coordination with central security agencies including the Intelligence Bureau (IB), have deployed personnel in full strength to prevent any untoward incidents.
Vehicles traveling on the Pathankot-Jammu National Highway are being subjected to thorough checks at several newly established security checkpoints. The Pathankot police, leading the effort, are working closely with senior officials who rushed to the scene to oversee a swift and coordinated response.
The enhanced security deployment includes specialized units from the Indian Army, Border Security Force (BSF), and anti-sabotage squads of the Punjab Police. Special Operations Group (SOG) teams, known for their expertise in counter-terrorism and high-risk operations, have also been strategically stationed in key areas.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Daljinder Singh Dhillon highlighted the critical need for this heightened vigilance. “In the current situation, such comprehensive preparedness is absolutely essential,” he said.
The entire security operation is being managed from the Pathankot police’s command-and-control center in Division No. 1, ensuring real-time surveillance and seamless coordination among agencies. Joint Quick Response Teams (QRTs), comprising Army and Punjab Police personnel, are also on standby at the border, ready to respond instantly to any threat.
In addition, dog squads have been deployed, with plans to requisition more explosive-sniffing dogs to bolster detection capabilities, SSP Dhillon added.
