Man Arrested in Assam for Viral Video of Train Stunt
A 27-year-old man was arrested in Assam’s Hailakandi district for uploading a video in which he appeared to lie between railway tracks as a train passed over him, police said on Thursday.
The man, identified as Papul Alom Barbhuiya, was taken into custody on Tuesday by the Lala police. In the 31-second video, which was uploaded to Facebook earlier this week, Barbhuiya is seen lying on the tracks at Lala railway station while a train seemingly moves over him. The video quickly gained attention online, though news agency PTI noted it could not independently verify the authenticity of the footage.
Barbhuiya, who describes himself as a video game programmer on social media and is reportedly based in Bengaluru, later posted a follow-up video claiming the stunt was digitally altered. He stated that the footage of the train was taken from the internet and inserted into his clip through editing, warning viewers not to attempt similar acts.
"Following his arrest, Barbhuiya was presented before a court and has since been granted bail," a police officer confirmed. Authorities said the case remains under investigation.
